ANNOTATION |
The "conservative restoration" has been the re-emphasis of certain educational objectives that counteract the changes instigated by 1960s protest movements. Since 1969, Shor argues, conservative policy makers have used curriculum regulation to make education conform to their political goals. Emphasis on vocation, language competence, and most recently, academics and computer technology have long taken precedence over teaching social issues and pedagogy that replicates processes of democracy. These reforms have spanned elementary education through university-level learning. A critical history work, this book examines the periods of reform to show how "reformists" have worked to compound the status quo.--With a foreword by Paulo Freire and a new afterword by the author |
