ANNOTATION |
The Discussion Course on Voluntary Simplicity is one part in a series of four discussion courses. The mission of the series is to motivate individuals to examine and transform personal values and habits, to accept responsibility for the earth, and to act on that commitment. The curriculum was written as seven sessions, designed for weekly discussion. Each includes brief readings and accompanying questions and concludes with "Putting it into Practice" for those who desire to do so.
Simplicity is a movement, a practice, and for many, a purposeful way of living in a complex, consumptive society. This course explores the practice of simplicity. As a practice, to simplify is to reduce to essentials, to streamline, and to clarify. This curriculum explores simplicity in all of these ways and addresses material and psychological distractions that keep us from caring for the earth. It examines the view that each person can, at the same time, improve the quality of life, reduce expenses, and reduce environmental impact. The curriculum was developed for use by community groups, church groups, schools, businesses, and others interested in discussing issues of simplicity. |
